How to Make Delicious Sugar-Free Pear Jam…
This recipe offers a way to prepare pear jam without added sugar, taking advantage of the natural sweetness of ripe pears.
It is a simple version suitable for those looking for a lighter alternative to traditional jam, ideal for accompanying bread, yogurt or rusks.
Ingredients :
- 1 kg (2.2 lbs) ripe pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 medium Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and grated
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) fresh lemon juice
- 5 g (1 teaspoon) ground cinnamon (optional)
- 50 ml (3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon) water, as needed
How to Make Delicious Sugar-Free Pear Jam:
- Preparing the pears: Wash and peel the pears, removing the core and cutting them into small pieces. Pears should be ripe to ensure natural sweetness and softer texture.
- Apple preparation: Wash and peel the apple, removing the core. The apple is important because it is naturally rich in pectin, a substance that helps to gel the jam without the need for added sugars.
- Cooking: In a large pot, place the chopped pears and apple, lemon juice (which also serves as a natural preservative) and cinnamon, if desired. Add water only if the mixture is too dry at first, otherwise let them cook slowly over low heat without adding liquid.
- Stir and mash: Cook over medium-low heat for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the fruit from sticking to the bottom. Using a wooden spoon or fork, mash the fruit as it cooks to achieve a softer, smoother consistency.
- Blend (optional): If you want a very smooth jam, blend the mixture with an immersion blender, or leave it coarser if you prefer fruit pieces.
- Storage: Once the desired consistency is reached, pour the hot jam into sterilized glass jars. Close them tightly and invert to create a vacuum. Allow to cool completely before storing in a cool, dark place.
