Orange Marmalade: The Perfect Recipe…

Orange marmalade is a classic, a little treasure trove of simplicity and taste that brings the warmth of the sun and the aroma of citrus fruits into our homes. Making orange marmalade at home is not only a way to delight the palate, but also to bring back old traditions and share moments of happiness with family and friends.

Ingredients :

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) fresh oranges
  • 700 g (3 1/2 cups) sugar (caster sugar in)
  • 250 ml (1 cup) water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How to prepare Orange Marmalade:

  1. Wash oranges thoroughly under running water. If possible, use organic oranges to avoid pesticide residues.
  2. Dry the oranges and lightly grate the peel, trying to take only the colored part and avoiding the white, more bitter part.
  3. Cut the oranges in half and remove the seeds. Then, cut them into small pieces or slices, depending on the consistency desired in the marmalade.
  4. Place the prepared fruit in a large bowl and add the lemon juice.
  5. Transfer the oranges to a large saucepan. Add the sugar and mix well. Let the mixture stand for about an hour so that the fruit releases its juices and the sugar begins to dissolve.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 to 2 hours, or until the jam reaches the desired consistency. While cooking, remove any foam that forms on the surface with a skimmer to ensure a clearer, brighter jam.
  7. To test whether the jam has reached the desired consistency, do the cold saucer test: place a teaspoon of jam on a cold saucer and tilt it. If the jam slowly slides and thickens, it is ready. If the jam is still too runny, continue cooking for another 10 to 15 minutes and repeat the test.
  8. Prepare sterilized, dry jars. Pour the jam while still hot into the jars, leaving about 1 cm of space from the rim. Close the jars and invert them for a few minutes to create a vacuum. Store the jars in a cool, dry place. Once opened, store the jam in the refrigerator.
